The library I am creating here is the list of books that I have been and will be reading over the next few weeks for the Yound Adult materials course that I am taking through USC. But I hope to discover ways to use it, too, with my Junior High School students as I pursue all avenues in the promotion of literacy. I already love the suggested titles lists for books that are similar to others.

I am probably the luckiest person on the planet with a rich, if overly full life, surrounded by the very best of friends and family. As a single Mom in grad school with two jobs, I find my own schedule to be just short of madness, but I am happy with my choices and wouldn't trade places with anyone. I've been the sole librarian for the past seven years at Marshwood Junior High School in Eliot, Maine and I adore my job there with all the benefits and challenges, but the low hourly wage of my ed tech position is a cross to bear.I do love working with the students and hope to find a salaried position in the future in a school library. I also work part time and summers at the Kittery Trading Post, a smaller, local alternative to LL Bean, which is a perfect fit because of my passion for the outdoors. My obsession is hiking and, as jobs, school, and family allow, I am a section hiker of the Appalachian Trail which I may manage to complete by the time I reach the age of 70. But, for me, the journey matters more than the destination. Otherwise, I spend my time reading, biking, kayaking, snowshoeing, rollerblading, and skiing whenever I can shoehorn it in.
I graduated way back in 1977 from Norwich University in Vermont with a BA in English. My learning curve with the MLIS program has been rather steep after being out of school for 28 years, but it feels like the best giant step forward. It seems like a wonderful opportunity to learn with an eye on the future, while plugging in newly acquired skills and information for me to better serve the students and staff at our school library. I have been learning so much!
