Critiques en avant-première
COVID-19 disrupted the premier road races known as the World Marathon Majors (WMM) that take place annually in Berlin, London, Chicago, Boston, Tokyo, and New York City. Normally spanning the calendar from March to November, the pandemic forced a rescheduling of the 2021 WMM such that all the races would take place during a six week stretch in the fall. At age 60, with only a single previous marathon under his belt and recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Joe Drake decided to run all six of these races on the compressed schedule.
In Run With It, writing in a style that is charmingly humorous and informative, Joe marks his debut as an author. He tells of his transformation into a marathoner, the physical and logistical challenges of running these races amid a world eager to emerge from a global catastrophe, and how this quest with the help of friends, family, and the running community allowed him to devise a strategy for coping with Parkinson’s.

Hello Dear Reader,
Run With It is my debut memoir wherein I recount my early journey with Parkinson's disease against the backdrop of taking on the insane challenge of running all six of the World Marathon Majors during a six week stretch in the fall of 2021.
I have several motivations for writing this book. For one, these marathons have never been grouped together so tightly before and, given that the unusual scheduling was forced by the COVID-19 pandemic, this situation is not likely to ever happen again. We hope. Hence, my book is a historical document. Shouldn't someone play the role of scribe for this unprecedented situation? Only one other person took on this challenge and as far as I know she has not written about it. The duty falls to me.
But the more compelling reason is that through this adventure I have found a way to deal with Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's is an incurable progressive neurodegenerative disease. It gets worse over time and normally the suffering eventually becomes unbearable to those living with the disease. However, it has become more widely known and clinically proven that vigorous exercise can slow and perhaps stop the progression of the disease. For me, that has clearly been the case. Yet, I have also found that taking on this challenge helped me in other, unexpected ways. No more spoilers - time to read the book.
I want to help others with Parkinson's by giving them an example of how to thrive despite it. You can assist me in this effort by reading this book and posting your honest review about it. Spread the word! You may be helping many, many people who may be struggling with their diagnosis.
And for good measure, all profits from the sale of this book are donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Together we can help to bring about a world without Parkinson's.
Thank you and good luck on this giveaway.
Regards,
Joe Drake
