ahef1963 : Raggedy Ann (and Andy) dolls scared me as a child and still do.
Diane-bpcb: This was read to me. I adored my cloth and yarn Raggedly Ann so much, that listening to her stories allowed me to enjoy her all the more.

pickupf: Beautiful illustrations - exotic India theme in my edition. The best one was the tiger/butter stream. Brave and clever little boy.
Diane-bpcb: The tigers melting into butter were the charming thing here.

Diane-bpcb: "Back in my day", the book had a mustard-yellow clothbound cover with brown ink; the drawings all inside. Oh, how the illustrations fascinated me--the brother who could swallow the entire sea but was almost bursting holding it in!! and the brother whose legs expanded down to the bottom of the sea!!

Diane-bpcb: The Dr. Seuss "classic" books had imaginative stories, and hauntingly (to me) beautiful water colors. Have recently seen cheapened versions with fewer drawings, dulled colors.

Diane-bpcb: Again, one of the classic Dr. Seuss books. So superior to the "hop on pop" ones, full of child-like emotions.

Diane-bpcb: There's a Betsy-Tacy society active in Mankato, Minnesota, where you can visit the Betsy and Tacy houses side-by-side in town. I loved all the[ Betsy-Tacy and Tib] books. At the time I read them, I believed that life really had existed in those days without the problems of the 20th century. The friendship of the girls was wonderful. Escapism when I needed it.

ahef1963: A childhood favourite; I read it so often that the spine fell apart.
Diane-bpcb: MAJOR SPOILER: (Haven't figured out the new Spoiler offering in LT.) Will never forget reading somewhere something by a girl who always fought with her sister, and how she felt when this sister, having read the book first, calls out, "Beth died."

ahef1963: My favourite of the Little House books.
Diane-bpcb: This was my favorite of the Little House books, which I just loved. My sister and I would play covered wagon, using our twin beds as our wagons, etc. Little did we know, in those days, that ancestors had gone West in a wagon train.
