elahrairah: Quite simply the best novel ever written from the POV of animals. It takes less than a couple of chapters for the brain to forget that these are rabbits, it creates a believable world and cosmology without being didactic or breaking the fourth wall. This is a children's book that is really an adult's book, but is suitable for children! The themes, oh the themes! Man's inhumanity, the archetypal epic journey throgh dark places to salvation, a sensitive critique of authoritarianism (woundwort isn't just a baddy, he has good reasons for what he does), anti-elitism, strength through plurality etc etc. Truly a great work.

waltzmn: Also worth checking are Robert Henryson's versions of the fables, particularly "The Cock and the Jasp" and "The Two Mice" (The City Mouse and the Country Mouse); Henryson has improved the presentation of both tales -- at least if you can read Middle English/Middle Scots.
