Modernist elusions: madeleines for Sweeney

Ce groupe est officiellement « en sommeil ». Ça arrive. Si vous souhaitez faire revivre ce groupe, ou créer un nouveau groupe sur le même sujet, voir cette page.

Modernism, Imagism, Symbolism, Bolshevism, Realism, Futurism, Surrealism, Objectivism and a host of other "movements" in the arts and literature defined the first half of the twentieth century as a period that wanted (maybe) to be different than what came before. Did the era represent an historical break with the past? Did literature have truly new problems to wrestle with or new solutions to the problems? Was Modernism the death rattle of the old aristocracy or is it the foundation of an aesthetic for a new and different era? Have we all become cockroaches?

This group is for discussion of all things relating to the period, and not of any one author. From Akhmatova to Zukofsky.
