Courte biographie
An American book and magazine illustrator, Florence Liley Young was born in England to William and Sarah Liley, and raised in the USA, after her family emigrated. She studied art at the Massachusetts Normal Art School and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and was a student of Joseph De Camp and Frank W. Benson. She continued her work after her marriage to Dr. Ralph R. Young, and the birth of her son, maintaining that her passion for artwork was balanced by her love and care for her family and home. The sister of Mary Liley Cheever, mother of noted American author John Cheever, "Aunt Florence" was remembered by her nephew as a lovably eccentric woman as devoted to her art as he was to his writing.
