The book explains the characteristics of people with Asperger syndrome (AS) and autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) in their relationships, communication and imagination, the sensory distortions of sound, smell, taste, balance, as well as the feelings of anxiety, obsessive behaviours, and depression they experience. The author gives advice on how to manage the characteristics of AS, who to tell about your AS, recognising your talents, and complementing your traits, using a planned, step-by-step approach that will help you to improve your coping and life skills over time. She also recommends that you identify a support person who can read this book with you, help you with applying the strategies and get professional support. This is a book that seems to be targeted to the wrong market. The bookstores list it as for adolescents and adults. One also mentioned that it contains information on the neuroscience of Asperger's. Both are overstatements. The neuroscience takes up only five pages, and is hand-waving. And the text is not targeted to adults. Indeed, it doesn't strike me as being much use to adolescents. This would probably be a good book for children ages 10 to 13 or so. But students in high school will already have started to establish habits, good or bad, that it does not address. And, as an adult, I found very little that is of use. For me, it is a two star book. For the true target market (which is not the market identified on the cover) it would be much better.… (plus d'informations)
