This is a great example of Fantasy because the snake makes himself into different shapes, and we know that this would never occur in real life. The use of voice in the story is mostly Simon speaking in first person, and some 3rd person author speaking toward the end. Simon the snake discovers the many possibilities about what he can be. He picks up trash and morphs into a Christmas tree. This is a great board book with fun illustrations done on canvas with paint. There is a simple beginning, middle and end plot in this story. First Simon poses the question, What can I be? Then he explores many possibilities of things he could be. The solution is that Simon should just be himself.
