Ms. Wooldridge, who is no longer with the living, began writing late in life & my what she might have written had she started earlier. The author is known for her mixing historical events with her storytelling which serves enjoyable helpings for readers. This is the third installment in the Harelson orphans' saga, and the premise is beginning to wear a bit thin. The kids are still plucky and determined, but goodness! How much can one family take? They've survived the death of their parents and a younger brother, the kidnapping of their baby sister, a drought and now a severe injury for one of them and a serious flood. This poor family really needs a break.

Glad this was the last story of the series; I don't think I could have handled another one. What started out with a well-written, plotted story (Hannah's Brave Year), has devolved into something tiresome and repetitious. The author really should stopped after first or second book.

The series has lost its spark by this point, and the storytelling is becoming more rambling than focused. Yet another series that doesn't/didn't know when to end.
