Husband wife team included various artifacts and photographs to describe the whole of the culture and history behind each of the ancient american wonders. A little too close to school history book genre, but a lot of cool stuff to learn... More colorful original artwork would have enhanced the well layed out factual information...

I was able to learn much quickly in my research of ancient peoples with this clear breakdown of the climates and geographic influences that transformed nomadic hunter gatherers into specialized farmers. The resulting social implications of animal husbandry, specialized jobs and products, trade, and city centers with spiritual leaders were also documented clearly with artifacts.

I was a little disappointed not to see more information on alphabets and their development, but the inclusion of libraries, types of writing materials, book formats, and the impact of languages and communication technologies made for an interesting overview.

The book is part of the Technology in Ancient Cultures series. The content is organize by geographical region (seen through chapter titles in the table of content) as well as chronologically within the chapters. The inclusion of a timeline at the end of the book provides a nice summary. Other access features present include the glossary, source notes, selected bibliography, and further reading. The index is detailed and broken into subtopics. This book can be used as a reference book or an introductory interest book. Technology permeates daily life. Children nowadays interact with technology constantly. This book is a great source for a social studies class to help students learn history. This book can also be used in a math and computer science class through selected excerpts. For example, have the students read the background information on pi before teaching lessons on areas of circles.… (plus d'informations)
