Second helpings is a 3rd chance love story, with a love that's stayed strong for years through up and downs and years apart.

Even though this is a novella it is a complete story and you don't feel anything is missed.

Another winner by Brandon!

Those damn black Swedish Black Hens got to me! I was okay with Faloola but the chickens were my undoing. I enjoyed this cute story with its quirky characters and feathered friends. Kudos to Mr. Witt.

DNF at 11%: This is very well written, which is why this animal abuse scene's sending me running.
It's five-star writing and characters, but too much ick for me to stand reading, so minus half.

CW: abuse of cows (crappy living conditions, malnutrition); homophobia, but also I suspect something worse coming in this scene that I quit in, uglier than homophobia, from the animal abuser. That's too many uglies in one place for this reader.

Christmas Miracles of a Recently Fallen Spruce is the short story of Paxton Peterson and what happens to him Christmas Eve. It’s told in first person, present tense.

The narrator for this story is Paxton Peterson, a type-A personality, who’s always prepared for just about anything. He’s out for his traditional Christmas Eve hike in the woods when an errant snowmobile comes crashing in his direction. What happens afterwards with Logan Charles, the driver of the snowmobile, makes for the Christmas miracle. I don’t usually like first person stories, and I especially don’t like present tense. However, the author did a great job with Paxton’s narration, and the story is short enough so that the tense didn’t annoy me. Don’t expect to learn much about Logan, since the MCs just met we only get to know Logan through his looks.

This book is a very fast read, perfect for cozying up in front of a fireplace. The story leaves the reader heart-warmed and optimistic. The only mistake I spotted was one having to do with pork ‘lion’ instead of pork loin. But, that’s not a big deal, it actually made me chuckle. Lastly, don’t expect graphic sex in this book. Paxton and Logan do have it, but it’s fade to black.

I have to give Christmas Miracles of a Recently Fallen Spruce, 4 Stars because it’s a perfect quick, fun, holiday read.
