- Winskye began writing stories about girls & horses at age 12. For 30 years, she wrote for her own enjoyment. She self-published her first novel, James Collins: Royal Entanglements, in 2003. She rewrote the book in 2008, publishing it under the title Royal Entanglements. As of 2010, she has published 8 novels: 4 in the Collins Family saga, 2 mysteries, a romance, & a romance mystery. The hero talked of faith and abstinence, but most of the book was about playing all around the edges without actually having sex. I’m afraid the storyline didn’t grab me, either. A princess and her bodyguard fall in love, and while waiting out the ten months until their wedding, he is given a cabinet post, where he proceeds to ‘change the world’ in his adopted country. There were nice descriptions and scenes of horses, for readers who enjoy that.
I’m afraid I was the wrong kind of reader for this book. The better fit for this book may be a conservative who is not Christian, or someone who enjoys reading titillating sketches of first love sexual awakenings, or maybe just someone younger than me, a young adult reader, perhaps. If you are a reader like that, please let me know and I will pass this book on to you, for I believe that every book has its particular readers.
