Paula F. Winskye

The author of Royal Entanglements kindly provided a copy of her book through a drawing in the Hobnob with Authors group. In the description of her book, Ms. Winskye used the term “conservative values”, which piqued my interest. However, I think this book would garner better reviews if it were not marketed with “conservative values”; for I found it to be very different than I expected.

The hero talked of faith and abstinence, but most of the book was about playing all around the edges without actually having sex. I’m afraid the storyline didn’t grab me, either. A princess and her bodyguard fall in love, and while waiting out the ten months until their wedding, he is given a cabinet post, where he proceeds to ‘change the world’ in his adopted country. There were nice descriptions and scenes of horses, for readers who enjoy that.

I’m afraid I was the wrong kind of reader for this book. The better fit for this book may be a conservative who is not Christian, or someone who enjoys reading titillating sketches of first love sexual awakenings, or maybe just someone younger than me, a young adult reader, perhaps. If you are a reader like that, please let me know and I will pass this book on to you, for I believe that every book has its particular readers.
