Summer time in the country par Robert Aris Willmott
Before photomechanical processes were possible engraving was an important if challenging way to produce illustrations for books. The Dalziel brothers were a leading firm providing engravings for publications in the decades before photomechanical means were common. The many illustrations in this elegant book were designed by various artists whose signatures are incorporated with their images.
It is rewarding to apply a magnifying glass to these illustrations and to consider their differences and similarities to later photographic illustrations. Their choice of subject, mood and composition had some influence on early art photography.… (plus d'informations)
