Courte biographie
Amanda Kyle Williams was a successful, full-time crime novelist. A dyslexia diagnosis at age 22 explained why she had trouble in school; she had dropped out of high school at age 16. Her first set of novels were published by Naiad Press and featured a protagonist who, like Williams, was a lesbian. She developed the idea for her second protagonist, a Chinese-American woman like Williams's niece, almost twenty years later. She was at work on her fourth novel in the series when she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer, which eventually killed her.

Received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I'm a sucker for a strong female lead, especially when she's solving some sort of mystery. Keye Street is a former FBI agent and she's in recovery. Already I'm sold and I didn't even know what I was getting into! I wasn't aware that this was #3 in the series when I requested it but I don't feel like I missed out on enjoyment of the story as a result. I think there's some back story that would have rounded out the characters a bit more but I can go back and pick up the first two. Anyway, I was hooked from the beginning and even when I thought I had it figured out, I wasn't so sure. Williams kept me entertained until the very end and I've got a new series to add to my list of must reads.… (plus d'informations)

Kept me up late as I raced to finish it. Best volume in this series so far.

The book is written in the first person and told from the perspective of Keye Street. All the stages of the story also interspersed with short passages of dialogue from the murderer's eyes. It confused me at least until I realized how the story was progressing.

According to the blurb, Keye Street is causing trouble for the FBI.
She works in the field of criminal profiling and is excellent in her area of practice. She had two academic degrees and was a rising star in the skies of the FBI. Besides, she is beautiful-looking, and with her sharp senses, she knows how to read well what is happening in the minds of the most dangerous criminals.

And now she was on her own.

Keye is also an alcoholic in rehab and addicted to adrenaline. She surrounds herself with unknown types and wants to sleep with her best friend, though for the time being she is still sleeping with her ex-husband. There is also a fear that develops in the reader that Keye is violent, and perhaps even dangerous. But in Atlanta, Georgia, a serial killer now turns, and the local police need Keye's services to help them.

I expected by the blurb that Keye would use her sharp senses, which would reflect in detail in the book. In practice, It did not come to fruition. On the other hand, there are too detailed descriptions of the horrific crimes, including sexual abuse.

To the author's credit, she maintains the tension throughout the book. It's a good book, a bit different from the usual style. The plot is a little slower, the story told from a feminine point of view, the narrator also deals with other investigations as part of her role as a private investigator and tells about them as well. The end was surprising and unexpected.

I enjoyed reading, but it's worth noting one thing that the story is very detailed and hard to read for some people.
