Alexander Whyte, DD, LLD (1836-1921), regarded as the finest preacher of late-Victorian Scotland, was a minister of the United Free Church of Scotland at the church of St. George's at Edinburgh from 1870-1916, and was the principal of New College at Edinburgh from 1909-1918.
