Seriously adorable picture book -- love the images, love the woodland creatures of it all. What I like most is that it is far more intricate than it first appears -- in imagery, alphabet and story. The story is simple, but does a fabulous job of following the year around, bringing in both the months and the seasons. It stays neutral on the the holidays, though, so good for any kid. Very focused on being outdoors and exploring and using your imagination as part of play. Lovely, lovely work.

One of my favorite picture books in recent years -- beautiful, detailed illustrations that draw the reader in, while the text providing lovely rhymes to help with learning to count.

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a sweeter counting book than this one. We visit the little barefoot critters in their cute village (there is even a map at the first of the book showing all of the sites we will see.) Starting with the number one and a solitary critter enjoying a bit of reading, we work our way through different scenes adding a new animal friend and a new activity, such as making pancakes, playing pirates, and swimming, as the book moves along. The illustrations are simply precious. The colors are very pretty and eye-catching with a fall-like color scheme. The woodland creatures are whimsical and cute. There is also enough detail in the drawings to hold the attention of any small child. My daughter, who is four, kept softly saying, "Aw!" at each turn of the page. The rhyme is very smooth and even, which makes for easy reading aloud. This book is so beautiful that I will be purchasing a hard copy when it is released. In hardback, this would be a wonderful and cherished book for a baby shower or even a first birthday.… (plus d'informations)
