Although I found the topics discussed in this book interesting, I did not find the writing style appealing at all. The author has a sense of humor and makes many intriguing points, but I just did not find the book to be engaging or pleasant to read.

So refreshing to encounter an academic philosopher who is turning their education and intelligence to addressing something more humanly meaningful than the usual topics of language and logic. A must read guide to the meaning of leading a frugal life through the history of thinking on this subject.

An interesting, provocative and sometimes amusing examination of everyday ethical issues.

I had seen this in stores and I was excited when I found it in the New Arrivals section at the local library. I was expecting a somewhat scientific book with references to studies and new information (or at least new to me). It turned out to be philosophical, instead of scientific, which isn't a bad thing per se. The problem is that after 70 pages of a 270 page book, I hadn't really found much content. Too much of it was the author just saying common sense things and then agreeing with himself. I certainly don't disagree with the claims made, but I feel as though any straight A ninth grader could have filled in the details given a one page list of bullet points to consider.

It could be that the book gets much better after 70 pages, but I think that should be plenty of time for a book to prove that it's worth reading, and this one did not. This review might be a bit harsh, but I really don't like starting books and not finishing them and I feel let down by this book.
