Interesting story line but I didn't connect with the characters that well. You have Mary, who is studying the growth pattern of tomato seedlings, Aunt Priscilla Dane Osbourne who will try to help both Mary and her nephew Zenus, who owns a textile mill. And Zenus, who is trying to keep himself from caring about Mary, as they both work towards keeping Aunt Priscilla's goodwill.

If you’ve read the previous two books in the Montana Brides series, The Telegraph Proposal gives you an opportunity to catch up with some familiar fictional friends. But don’t concern yourself if you haven’t, once you get to know some of the Helena, Montana characters, you’ll feel like a part of this group of people too.

Yancey and Hale both carry misconceptions about each other. Yancey has put Hale on a pedestal for years. Hale has seen Yancey as annoying and selfish, avoiding her whenever possible. What neither of them has taken into consideration is that the other is human. Hale has made mistakes. Yancey has grown up. And when they correspond without realizing the truth of who they are writing to, some of those things come to light.

There are some difficult, tragic moments in The Telegraph Proposal. There are also some silly, humorous scenes. There are growing pains for Yancey and Hale. And I appreciated how Gina Welborn and Becca Whitham didn’t avoid any of it because the and the bad, the forward progress and the steps back, the friendships and family all work together to shape these two characters.

This is the second book in this series and it would be helpful to have read the first book in the series but not imperative. I so enjoyed Zoe and Jakob and Isaak. This is a great historical western romance. This really shows how family members need to learn to communicate. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
