William Weber fully described the aftereffect of an EMP explosion as if he were a survivor of a similar event. John Mack and his family are preppers with a bunker in their basement, and a cabin tucked away in the remote mountains; there's enough weapons, water and food to last his family of four a good year or more. What he didn't count on was for his daughter spilling the beans and letting others know about both of these locations which can put all their lives in jeopardy.

After three days, most people had run out of food and set out to beg, borrow or steal what they needed. John was smart enough to convince his neighbors to set up barricades, defenses, committees and teams to manage food and water within the small cul-de-sac. However, something was not right when the community saw families fleeing the area - then learning that a local drug dealer and his gang are trying to reclaim all the neighborhoods as his own..

Soon there is a face-off and John's small community stand their ground to fight a far superior force to protect what is theirs. After the great battle, the survivors give up the community and go their own ways. John and his family head to their cabin and find it occupied by squatters - another battle is set to begin...who will survive.

I did find that the story included a wealth of knowledge about prepping and what steps should be taken to protect a family if the world suddenly turns upside down. Story was riveting and I'm looking forward to the next installment.
