Maurice Waller

This isn't a biography that reads like a story. The personal anecdotes take backseat to the music. The names of dozens and dozens of jazz musicians of the era are thrown in wherever applicable. There are lengthy descriptions of writing sessions, performance tours, and music parties. It seems that family life DID take backseat to those things for Fats, so maybe there is justification in keeping the book's focus there.
In the end; an excellent book for the reader who wants to learn more about jazz, and one of the jazz greats of the early 20th century. Not as good a choice for the reader hoping to get a wonderful story, in which Fats Waller is the protagonist.… (plus d'informations)
