Reading it on kindle it says in brackets after the title: Sensual Romance. There's definitely a sensuality to the writing of this novella. It's found in the description of Draiper Sinclair, the man who has chosen to live in darkened solitude, in the way we're told what Violet Kincaid sees when she looks at him, in the description of their first erotic encounter and even in the portrayal of his cat named Lucifer.
There's a kind of tension surrounding this man, when you read about him appearing somewhere or just in his presence. The kind of tension that has you shifting closer to the edge of your chair, and that makes you want to read faster, or maybe not, maybe rather linger over the words, wanting to know what will follow.

But for all the roughness of his bolster, his pit is white. For all the tension that builds up, the solutions are swift to follow. All seemingly insurmountable obstacles vanish like snow with the sun, once they become clear the Violet and the reader, and when she asks him to try to get over them, he does. The depth of his trauma than feels shallow. It becomes unclear why there has to be another major setback when all seemed to be developing well between them. Will this obstacle be removed? Guess what....

Overall, it was an enjoyable read. Two stars for the plot, one more for the writing.
It seems like there should have been more. More length, more breadth, more depth.
And above all, more wickedly sensual sexual climax, after all that wickedly sensual sexual buildup.
