A collection of essays about the natural history and ecology of the San Francisco Bay Area. I never knew that California had pronghorn antelope. Cool. Observations of coastal birds and mammals, inland plant species, the changes wrought by European settlement and so forth. Very interesting. unfortunately not illustrated except a few line drawings as chapter heads.

A look at the significance of the Central American isthmus. The America's have had quite large differences in their pasts, South America being one of the two refuges containing marsupials. The re-introductions caused by their uniting have been very interesting for both.
