Many professional reviews were excellent, but I agree with so many of the readers' comments who got very little out of the many generations of a family whose matriarch starved herself to death in honor of women and possibly gaining equality for them in England. Most members of the family were quite uninteresting and also cold as people. And after plodding through many details that were provded, but not adequately explained, this book just stopped. Walbert is not an author I will read again. This book is just all over the place between characters and time periods. I don't like the style of writing which is all over the place as well. Couldn't keep up. Gave up.
