Mexican Calendar Girls - the only book ever written on the unknown painters who created the famous Mexican calendars in the 1930's - 1950;s. Full of 175 rare photos of my calendar collection. The book also comments on the post Mexican Revolutionary influx of American products and their advertising.

This a lovely book that is written in both Spanish and English. There are over 50 full color photos of historical calendar art from various artists & companies.

What I did notice was the tendency to anglicize the women, most were not of discernible Native Descent, and that I found perplexing!

Contents include: Introduction, Classic Calendars, National Identity, Celebrations & Customs, Macho Women & Cowgirls, Sexy, Exclusive Calendars, Appendices, Artist Biographies, U.S. Calendar Companies, Bibliography, Index by Artist, and Acknowledgements.

A very lovely & interesting book....

I adore this book. I love the Mexican calendar art and the calendar girls really speak to an old post-revolutionary image that Mexico wanted to project. Not only to the world, but to it's own people. Angela has done a superb job in tracking down information about the artists and companies that produced the calendars and the art work. The photos are fabulous. This is truly a sweet and sentimental look at a bygone era.
