A propos de l'auteur

Jesse Ventura, a Minnesota native born George Janos, served six years as a Navy Seal before embarking on careers as a champion professional wrestler, mayor of Brooklyn Park, and radio talk-show host. Currently the governor of Minnesota, he lives in St. Paul with his wife and two children. afficher plus (Publisher Provided) James George Janos was born on July 15, 1951 also known by his stage name Jesse Ventura. Ventura served in the United States Navy from December 1, 1969, to September 10, 1975, during the Vietnam War era. Ventura attended North Hennepin Community College Minnesota in the mid-1970s. At the same time, he began weightlifting and wrestling. He was a bodyguard for The Rolling Stones for a time, before he entered professional wrestling and changed his name to Jesse Ventura. As a wrestler, Ventura performed as a villain and often used the motto "Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat!" Ventura continued to wrestle until September 1984, when blood clots in his lungs ended his in-ring career. He then began to do color commentary on television for All-Star Wrestling and later Superstars of Wrestling. In February 1992 at SuperBrawl II, Ventura joined World Championship Wrestling as a commentator. Ventura ran for Governor of Minnesota in 1998 as the nominee for the Reform Party of Minnesota (he later joined the Independence Party of Minnesota). His slogan was "Don't vote for politics as usual". He won the election in November 1998, narrowly (and unexpectedly) defeating the major-party candidates. Lacking a party base in the Minnesota House of Representatives and Senate, Ventura's policy ambitions had little chance of being introduced as bills. He vetoed 45 bills in his first year, only three of which were overridden. During his time as governor, Ventura wrote a number of politically themed books. He continued to write several other books after leaving office. In April 2008, his book Don't Start the Revolution Without Me, was released. In it, Ventura describes a hypothetical campaign in which he is a candidate for President of the United States in 2008, running as an independent. He later stated that that the scenario is only imaginary and not indicative of a "secret plan to run". American Conspiracies is a book Ventura wrote with Dick Russell. Ventura also wrote DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans: No More Gangs in Government. The book expresses Ventura's opposition to the two-party system and calls for political parties to be abolished. In 2013 his book They Killed Our President: 63 Reasons to Believe There Was a Conspiracy to Assassinate JFK was released and quickly made The New York Times Best Seller List. While I find Ventura's views interesting, they are also over-simplified and seem to lack an understanding of some of the more complex issues that are faced on a wider national and international stage, seeming to have a more narrow view of a state governor, especially in the area of international relations. I also find his buying into a multitude of conspiracy theories disturbing to the point of paranoia, especially in the book's epilogue. Interesting read, but I find it difficult to take several aspects of it seriously.… (plus d'informations)

I grew tired of the book rather quickly. It seems that highly educated researchers are looked upon as elitists and scorned, and that those that can "entertain" with shouts and outrage are more believable because they're more like the common man. I thought the book contained a series of allegations, many unsubstantiated, but nonetheless were entertaining. I believe that there were truths in the book, but many of those offered as "new" have previously been published by well respected researchers. For example, the fellow conspirators of John Wilkes Booth isn't such a secret, but discussed in Swanson' book "Manhunt". And Ventura's nagging question about how and why James Earl Ray left incriminating evidence behind after assassinating Martin Luther King is discussed quite clearly in Hampton Sides book "Hellhound on His Trail". So I never got the impression Ventura was really trying to educate, but more attempting to tease us with interesting questions and to have us buy into his conspiracy theories. Real research is difficult and time consuming, offering conspiracy theories based on loose facts is a lot easier. I think Ventura is something akin to Glen Beck and capitalizing on the popularity of that style, e.g., two high school educated media stars offering conspiracy theories in what they see, just from the opposite political spectrum.

Certainly a rehashing of a lot of old ideas combined with some new ones. Nothing here really totally convinced me but I am a skeptic's skeptic so it is hard to persuade me of anything if I can't hold it in my hands or see it for myself. All in all was very well written and is very thought provoking.
