Geoffrey Haslam, Shel Kagan & The Velvet Underground
A selection of tracks from the first two Velvet Underground albums, and as good a place for the uninitiated to start as any. Songs include I'm Waiting for the Man, Sister Ray, Heroin, All Tomorrow's Parties and White Light/White Heat. Drug pushers, drug abuse, fellatio; they're all here. Music that is both unsettling and beautiful at the same time.
This was a mid-priced LP when released in the 1970s and is a compilation from the Velvets' first three albums. The first of these (The Velvet Underground and Nico) gets short shrift - just 2 tracks out of 12 - but that aside, this is an excellent introduction to the music of this fascinating band.
