It's a somewhat tedious read, but this is the horrifying story of the lengths to which the American film industry was willing to go to appease the Nazi government in order to preserve access to the lucrative German market. Over time, Hollywood kept extending more and more control to the Germans. Ultimately, the Germans insisted that American studios run all films intended for foreign sales undergo censorship by Nazi censors; violation of their rulings resulted in expulsion of the offending studio from the German market. They also insisted that Jewish characters and actors who were known to be Jewish be banned from films for the foreign market.
Even after the declaration of war ended exhibition of Hollywood films in Germany and Axis-controlled companies, the after-effects lingered. While America started churning out anti-Nazi movies, the fact that Jews were the primary victims of the Nazis was seldom mentioned.
Sad story.
