I read this book many years ago and I still remember quite a bit of it, probably because it was so well done. I also remember almost not reading it - it is bulky and I thought there was a high probability that it was going to be dry as summer grass, but it wasn't. If you're interested in Stalin, I would recommend this book, even if it is a bit dated.

2480 The Communists The Story of Power and Lost Illusions: 1948-1991, by Adam B. Ulam (read 3 Jan 1993) This is a masterpiece of joyous history--the story of the Communists from 1948 to 1991. The author is a Harvard professor who was born in Poland and has written extensively on Russia and Communism. This book is really absorbing, telling of the last days of Stalin, the Khrushchev years, and of the Brezhnev, Andropov, Chernenko, and Gorbachev time. He spends much time on the Russian-Chinese split, and all in all the book was a joy, joy, joy to read. Right triumphs, Communism falls. Great, great, great!… (plus d'informations)
