(I read poetry, but rarely plays) This is a complex story of generational trauma and family violence, told simply and strongly through the words of a child. Nine characters interact in post-war Amsterdam over a week, the youngest is just too young to remember the war, but just old enough to be a hero in his own home.

Clever writing and illustrations in a realistic but quite British middle school setting. Brian Hobble borrows a pen one day that turns his most dreaded school task (writing) into a thing of purple-prose poetry – even when used to complete a science test. Brian goes from being overlooked in both the classroom and on the soccer field to middle-school wunderkind with the help of the pink EasyFlow pen that really belongs to Veronica Lovelace (a popular romance novelist). Possible LA fiction selection for 6th or 7th grade?… (plus d'informations)
