Beautiful illustrations show what we look like from the inside out. Especially memorable are the comparative photos where one can see how like tree bone is, for instance, or how like moss-covered rocks are the cells inside the liver. Nature is parsimonious, and once something works it gets used and re-used in all sorts of applications. Gorgeous book.

When we found out in early 2007 that a little bundle of joy would be joining our family, we headed to the bookstore. This llovely coffee table book came back home with us. I loved pouring over the graphically enhanced photographs of babies in the womb, imagining how my own little one was developing. Now that he is a year old, I still enjoy it.

In addition to the gorgeous, full-color illustrations and photographs, there are some well-developed textual descriptions of conception and reproduction. Yet, such writing is tasteful and brief and this book remains a quality coffee table book one can browse at leisure.

I'd recommend this as a gift for couples who are expecting. It's lovely!

Gorgeous, lush, explicit narrative, detailing the embryo-to-grave workings of the cardiovascular system.
