The Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada was released in 2015. The summary volume covers the history of residential schools in Canada, the legacy of residential schools today, and the challenges of reconciliation.

I participated in the TRC Reading Challenge this year and tackled the summary volume of the report with some trepidation. With some knowledge of the horrors that First Nations, Inuit, and Metis children suffered while forced to attend residential schools, I knew that this read would be difficult emotionally. While I wasn't wrong on that front (the history section is very difficult to read), the report isn't entirely devastating. There is a general tone of hope in the discussion of the challenges of reconciliation. An important read for all Canadians as we learn about our history and look for ways to move forward that will honour the experiences of our Aboriginal population.… (plus d'informations)
