I am still to be convinced that economics is a science but, it seems to infiltrate every area of our life and so, this little book seemed like a good read. It was released in 1977, when inflation was the bete noir; this phenomenon is beginning to raise its ugly head again so there was much to be learned. Within a few pages, the scientific credentials are being laid down with a formula for how an economy works. No sooner is this done, than a new theory is expounded, followed by yet another. The agglomeration of letters in the formula begin to take on the feel of a novel being written by a severely dyslexic author. No two of these theories can agree and my eyes are glazing over.

You may have guessed, that my doubts about the validity of economics have not evaporated whilst reading this book; indeed, they have been strengthened: I am, however, entirely willing to believe that these gurus will have a significant effect upon my life - its just that it feels a bit like being accused of treason and having a learned man come along and feel the bumps upon one's head to determine guilt. Very Kafka-esk.
