Successful oarsman and rowing coach, best known for his part in the "Oxford mutiny" of 1987 when the experienced American oarsmen making up the core of the Boat Race crew resigned five weeks before race day, objecting to Topolski's arduous training schedule.

Excellent story about the 1987 Oxford Cambridge Boat Race and the disruption caused by American rowers who tried unsuccessfully to take over the OUBC (Oxford University Boat Club) because they felt that they didn't need to train for the event and went on to prove that they were unsuccessful men. Topolski proved to be one of the best coaches in the world.

Great history of OUBC and the Boat Race in the 1970s and '80s. Full of good stories. A bit dry at times, and the style and arrangement got a bit tedious..."Then in 1975, this happened. Then in 1976, this happened...." Still a good read, and nice addition to any rowing library.
