Author uses both official sources and memoirs, letters and oral history interviews to tell wonderful stories about the experiences of Army Nurses who served in every theater of the war during World War II. Included are first hand accounts of nurses at Pearl Harbor, New Guinea, North Africa, Sicily, Anzio, France, Germany, the China India Burma (CBI) theater, and even little written of areas such as Iceland, Canada, Alaska, the Aleutians, and the Persian Gulf Command, and the African American Nurses who served in Liberia. Though I have not, in the past, read any of the author's other work, in this case she has turned out a very competent narrative history of naval combat on the Mississippi that can be recommended with no reservations.
