Courte biographie
Sylvia Thompson was born in Scotland. She attended Somerville College at Oxford University, where her classmates included writers Vera Brittain, Winifred Holtby, Hilda Reid, and Margaret Kennedy. In 1926, she married Theodore Peter Luling, an artist known as Peter Luling, with whom she had three daughters. Sylvia became a novelist best known for The Hounds of Spring (1926), about the repercussions of World War I. The war is also a backdrop to her books The Rough Crossing (1921), and Chariot Wheels (1929). Other works included Battle of the Horizons (1928), Winter Comedy (1931), Breakfast in Bed (1934), Third Act in Venice (1936), The Gulls Fly Inland (1941), and The People Opposite (1948). Sylvia also became a well-known public speaker and toured the USA in 1932.
