W.B. Thomas

My first read of 2021 and my favourite for some time.

Simply told but just an incredible wartime escape story that's been more interesting than some novels I've read the last few years.

Racist novel dismissing the nationalist Mau Mau rebellion in 1950s Kenya. The blurb states: "W. B. Thomas creates an unforgettable picture of the obscene initiation ceremonies and revolting organisation of terror and death. This is a book which will convey to the reader, far mor vividly than any straight reporting can do, the haunted atmosphere of a country torn by internal strife." As such it is useful background to understanding colonial attitudes at the time.

Reads like friction, and suspect quite a bit of embellishment
