From this collection of essays I chose to read the two about Beatrix Potter books in Russia and Lithuania. Strict state control in Russia made it very difficult to publish children's books let alone translations from English. Nina Demourova's 'Peter Rabbit in Russian' substantiates this saying that only 2 Beatrix Potter books were published during the Soviet Regime, Mrs Tiggy-winkle becoming Ukhty-Tukhty. 'The perils Peter Rabbit has faced in Lithuania' by Kestutis Urba surfaces similar challenges as well as linguistic and grammatical structures turning Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-tail into brothers and not sisters. In Russia and Lithuania the illustrations are far inferior than those of Beatrix Potter.… (plus d'informations)
