5676. Thr Sam Walton Story An Inside Look at the Man and His Empire, by Austin Teutsch (read 12 Feb 2020) Sam Walton was born 29 March 1918 near Seymour, Mo. and died 5 April 1992. This book was first published in 1991 and published in paperback in 1992. It tells the story of Sam Walton and relates that he started Walmart in 1962 and traces its rise and tells that Walton became the richest man in America. It is mostly kind to Walton but does not fail to show his ruthlessness and his utter devotion to his business and his determination to make it big and powerful. I found the book easy to read and it held my interest well, though as biographies go it could have been more precise and better researched, I thought. And of course it is almost 30 years old and one would wish it were more current. It had a special interest for me since a neighbor I knew well moved to Rogers, Ark., and came to know Sam Walton as a 'character' in the area. He did not live as a rich man might and my ex-neighbor told how he drove an old pickup. Despite death taxes all his children became billionaires, making one less sympathetic to right-wing complaints about the awfulness of the "death tax."… (plus d'informations)
