Teller

This is a decent read for Penn & Teller fans. The level of tricks presented tended to fall in a "dad joke" range for me. Some of the tricks were simply beyond my capacity of appreciation and left me with a feeling of "why, just why?" I'm too old, too cynical, too female, or need to bear children.

That being said, there's amusing bits and certainly sections that made me laugh. The writing is a little iffy in spots, but when the topics get slightly more serious (there's a few discussions about freedom in entertainment and travel) the voice gets a lot stronger and more engaging.

To those interested in reading this, I would suggest a chapter-at-a-time approach to keep everything lively and fun.… (plus d'informations)

What an awesome find in the "free bin" at the co-op! A discarded library book in perfect shape! I remember my brother playing one of many dirty tricks on me as a child...I think I was 11 and he was 18. He had me pick a card and bet me what was a large sum of money to an eleven-year-old that he could guess my card, making it seem impossible. After he incorrectly guessed and I smugly demanded my money, he played a Penn & Teller video that bored me, but destroyed my win. Penn or Teller held up my card! Cute, but it sucked!

Remembering this, I snatched this book out of the bin intending to read it and send it off to him. I could tell this would be a pretty interesting read, as Penn & Teller are much more brilliant than I had previously thought, but I could also immediately see that they share my brother's a-bit-too-dark humor, not mine. So I read a few pages and I'm sending it off to him.
I give it a 7/10 because I think it's good, just not for me. Enjoy!… (plus d'informations)

Bár a könyv leírásában az szerepel, hogy könnyen megtanulható étellel kapcsolatos bűvésztrükköket tartalmaz, valójában ez csak kis része a könyvnek. Ezen kívül találhatunk a könyvben étellel kapcsolatos vicces történeteket Penn és Teller életéből, részletes magyarázatot egy trükkre amit a Letterman showban láthattunk (valóságban persze inkább youtube-on), étellel kapcsolatos játékleírásokat, és számtalan átverésötletet. Sőt, kissé érthetetlen módon egy kriminovella is van a könyvben. A könyv egyébként a "The Unpleasant World of Penn & Teller" című 1994-es (igen rövid) tévésorozat alapján készült, a trükkök egy részét ott mutatták be.

Penn & Tellerhez méltóan a könyv igen vicces. Persze a poénok megértéséhez nem árt ismerni a párost.

Bár a könyvet bűvészkönyvként reklámozzák, mielőtt ajándékba adjuk egy ismerősnek/rokonnak azzal érdemes tisztában lenni, hogy ha valaki alaposan áttanulmányozza a könyvet, és komolyan veszi az ott leírtakat, akkor nem jobb bűvész lesz, hanem egy igen kegyetlen átveréseket ismerő veszélyes barát.… (plus d'informations)
