Courte biographie
Steve Talbott was exposed more early than most to computers, due to his job as a programmer and technical writer. His background in philosophy and technical understanding of the machines with which he was working allowed him to be more reflective than most. In 1995 he wrote the pioneering critique of the effects of digital technology, The Future Does Not Compute: Transcending the Machines in Our Midst, and he has since produced more books, on biotechnology. Since 1995, he has produced NetFuture, an online newsletter about technology and human responsibility which the New York Times has called an "undiscovered national treasure". He is now devoted to the establishment of a qualitative, rather than quantitative science, and has been focusing on evolution.

I was very sceptical of this book, as I am I hardcore Jane Austin fan, but it exceeded my expectations! It fits perfectly with the origenal, and even goes on to sort of tie up what strings were left. I couldn't be happier! I only wish I could read it for the first time again!

A wonderful read for any Jane Austin lover.

Strange, what you keep, and what you let go, over the years. I had this book, and the IMake book, and there was a time I could write Makefiles in my sleep. The IMake book is long gone. This one is still a useful reference.

It's a slim volume, and I see that there's an update from GNU (which I've read through), but I recommend this one, even though it's older, instead. Then again, I still use xmkmf.
