I got this in the hope it might reduce the confusion caused by the myriad spellings and variants of Mongol names and words one encounters in history books. I guess it performed that office about as well as one could realistically have hoped for.

Not surprisingly, given my interests, I found the diachronic parts, describing the development of the modern Mongolic languages - while the book concentrates on the Khalkha Mongolian of Ulaanbaatar, it also deals with Buryat, Oirat, and the smaller more divergent modern Mongolic languages - from the Old Mongolian of Genghiz Khan's time the most interesting.… (plus d'informations)
