Frances Stroh was born in Detroit and raised in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She received her BA from Duke University and her MA from the Chelsea College of Arts in London as a Fulbright Scholar. She practiced as an installation artist before turning to writing. She lives in San Francisco, California.

Yet another story of how hard it is to be rich. While this is better than most, she still needs to learn how to be a real member of the working class before complaining.

'Beer Money' is a cautionary tale of the loss of wealth and privilege centered around Frances Stroh and her dysfunctional family. Frances is a member of the Stroh Brewery family, a business that was established in the mid-1800's but took only a decade to collapse in the early 21st century. The Stroh family was used to living on dividend checks, and lived quite a privileged life. Family dysfunction, including drug and alcohol abuse, divorce, and the downturn of Detroit's car-based economy, all contributed to her family's bankruptcy. The story was told well, with remarkable honesty. This story reminds me of another heiress who was unable to cope with her inherited fortune, described in the book, 'Empty Mansions.'… (plus d'informations)
