Courte biographie
Sandra Lynn Cox was born on March 12, 1948 in Waco, Texas and raised in Ft. Worth. She is nothing if not serious when it comes to her work. As the oldest of five daughters, she was a responsible and mature girl, and always chose to read a book rather than play with dolls. Her responsible nature stayed with Sandra as she graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in English, and in her job as a contributing feature reporter at the nationally syndicated PM Magazine in Dallas. When the show experienced mass layoffs, however, Sandra found herself out of work.

Sandra married Michael Brown, former television anchorman and award-winning documentarian of Dust to Dust, and returned to Ft. Worth. They had two children, Rachel and Ryan. Though she continued in her occasional position as a showroom model in Dallas, her husband encouraged her to try fiction writing while their children were at school. He had just left a career as a news anchor and talk-show host to form his own production company, so why shouldn't she take a creative risk, too?

Within a year Sandra sold her first novel, Love's Encore, under the name Rachel Ryan (taken from the first names of her two children). Soon thereafter, she was producing a succession of books for six different publishers, culling ideas from briefs in USA Today, television shows, and her own active imagination. She wrote two boosk as Laura Jordan and several books for Harlequin under the name Erin St. Claire.

Since the publication of her first novel in 1981, she has penned well over sixty books. Sandra has over fifty million copies of her books in print, and has achieved some major feats on what is perhaps the most highly regarded bestseller list of all--that of the New York Times. Since 1990, every one of Sandra's novels has appeared on the list. In total, her books have appeared on the prestigious list over thirty times.

In 1992 her novel "French Silk" was made into an ABC-TV movie.

"Out of Nowhere" by Sandra Brown is a gripping tale of tragedy and resilience set against the backdrop of a Texas county fair. Children's book author Elle Portman and corporate consultant Calder Hudson are brought together by a horrifying shooting, sparking a quest for justice and an unexpected connection. Brown's masterful storytelling keeps readers on the edge of their seats with its fast-paced plot, well-developed characters, and thought-provoking themes of redemption and the human spirit.

Hello, Darkness was an engaging and exciting thriller which stars Paris Gibson and Dean Malloy. Paris is a former television reporter who became a radio personality while she was caring for her fiancé who was gravely injured in a car accident. He was mostly brain dead for the seven years she cared for him. He has recently passed away.

Dean Malloy was Paris's fiancé's best friend since their college days. After the accident, they lost track of each other primarily because Paris wanted it that way. Dean has been busy with his career as a psychologist and police officer. He has also been co-parenting with his ex-wife. Now his wife has remarried, and Dean has become the primary caretaker for his seventeen-year-old son Devin. He has also recently moved to Austin and taken his son with him. Devin isn't happy about the move and is rebelling and hanging out with unsuitable friends.

When Paris receives a threatening phone call while she is at work, she calls the police and goes to the police with a cassette of the call. She fears that the caller is not just venting but is really threatening the life of someone. The police sergeant calls in the new lieutenant who turns out to be Malloy. Now they are forced to confront each other and work together if they want to save the life of the missing woman.

There are lots of possibilities for the unknown caller including a sex addict, an ex-con, and still others. The story, published in 2003, talks about teenagers who are connecting for sex over the internet which also includes Dean's son Devin on the edge of that. It is also told from multiple viewpoints including that of the sex addict. The story didn't feel dated despite its age.

I liked that Paris and Dean were able to resolve their differences which were caused by guilt over their actions in the past. I thought the tension built nicely in the story. I'll admit that I was surprised by the villain of the story despite forming a poor opinion of him during the course of the story.

The audiobook version does a great job in mimicking a god ole Texan accent.

This is the story of Honor and her daughter, Emily. Honor's husband, Eddie, was killed in the line of duty as a police officer. One day, Emily comes into the house and tells Honor that there's a man in the yard taking a nap. Honor goes out to check on him and he takes her and Emily hostage in their own home. Coburn is looking for something Eddie had and Honor has no idea what he is referring to.

Coburn is accused of killing people at a shipping warehouse the night before he shows up at Honor's house. When Coburn realizes that the police are getting close, he takes Honor and Emily and they leave their home and go into hiding. Not only are the police looking for Coburn, so is The Bookkeeper, but nobody knows who The Bookkeeper is.

Very well written, lots of twists. Didn't expect the ending but it was all wrapped up nicely. Believable characters.
