While the author did a lot of research, including speaking with Zsa Zsa's daughter, Francesca, other relatives, friends, co-stars, and employees, he tried to prove that the Gabor's weren't just famous for being famous. However, these ladies, with their multiple marriages, and limited talent, were just that. Unfortunately, it was their mother who encouraged and raised the three sisters to be money (and title) hungry. Magda was probably the most practical having worked for the underground in Hungary during WWI, Eva was probably the most level-headed, but Zsa Zsa was, unfortunately, unbalanced. This cost her in the end with her 9th husband who separated her from her only child and ended up inheriting all of the money since Eva, Magda, and mom Jolie, left Zsa Zsa the majority of their estates. The book is well written and the author does a good try in trying to convince us these ladies had acting talent but, in the end, they still were just famous for being famous.… (plus d'informations)

All About Eve is one of my favorite movies. I’ve seen it so many times that I can know lots of the dialogue by heart. Therefore, this book is right up my alley full of insider stories about casting the movie, the hot romance between Bette David and Gary Merrill, as well as how the movie jump started Marilyn Monroe’s career.

The author also continues his insider story to the musical Applause.... This is a juicy read for anyone who loves movies or theater.

A bit too "dishy" for my taste. I would have preferred reading more about the actual making of the film. Most of the book only covers the affect the movie had on popular culture.

I've been aware of Elsa Maxwell since I was small. She was in the same league as Perle Mesta, in my mind. When I saw this book I figured I'd give it a read...and it had photos from the times of Elsa Maxwell. Something I like in biographical works.

Elsa Maxwell was born in Keokuk, Iowa in 1881 and grew up in San Francisco, California. Her family was in a good income bracket, so life was not difficult. She was raised in society and knew her way around.

The book takes you through part of her childhood and how she reinvented herself to become reknown for her parties she organized, her musical abilities, a gossip columnist, writer, composer, actress, and all around bon vivant.

She lived a busy lifestyle and hobnobbed with the high society of New York, London, Paris, Monte Carlo and Venice. She created and gave themed parties that were over the top. She reported on various celebrities and their lives in her columns. She was involved with Hollywood for a brief time. I guess you could say she lived life large.

If you are curious about Elsa Maxwell and her world, Sam Staggs book is a good read. I enjoyed it!
