To the extent this book's "about" anything, that thing's ten players who were drafted by the Oakland A's in 2002 ("The Moneyball Draft"--Soren's husband is Michael Lewis). For each player there are a few pics (by Ms Soren) taken early in their pro careers, a few more taken by the same photographer recently, some other photographs or documents from the player's own files/collections, and a brief commentary by the player about his baseball career. The commentaries appear to reflect each player's character, and are interesting for that.

There is also a set of five very short stories by Dave Eggers; they add up to a single fictional baseball career in short sketches. I found these quite delightful.

Throw in some not-very-related photographs by Soren and some informative endnotes. I suppose it adds up to a book. But the organization's a disaster, particularly if you want to tie the notes to the photographs, or the player career summaries to the commentaries.

An interesting book, but not a good one. The pieces are more than the whole.

"My dad would put a baseball in my left hand in my crib with hopes of making me a left-handed pitcher. It didn't work." - Chris Shank

:-) I tried the same thing with my daughter, with the same result!!!

Lots of nice pictures, and as an Oakland A's fan, I enjoyed that there were a lot of A's related photos and commentaries. Nothing to write home about, or to add to my A's collection of books, but it was pretty to look at!

SPOILER ALERT:
this book really has nothing to do with "Moneyball", other than the fact that this author is married to that author. It is definitely NOT a sequel or follow up!… (plus d'informations)
