Beyond the Best Interests of the Child is the first volume in a classic trilogy of works by Joseph Goldstein, former Sterling Professor Emeritus of Law at Yale Law School; Albert J. Solnit, the former director of the Yale Child Study Center, and Anna Freud, daughter of Sigmund Freud. This collection of texts are classic references often cited in child custody cases. This volume of The Psychoanalytic Study of the Child commemorates the one-hundredth birthday of Anna Freud, who, with Ernst Kris and Heinz Hartman, founded this annual repository of writings on child psychoanalysis and child development. The first section of the book contains the program of a day-long scientific meeting in December, 1995 that explored aspects of Anna Freud's contributions to psychoanalytic development and their applications. Contributors to that meeting and to further sections of the book that deal with psychoanalytic theory, development, clinical contributions, and applied psychoanalysis include:
