Although this book was published well before the arsenic theory was put forth (&, in my opinion, proven) it is nonetheless informative & insightful---not only regarding Napoleon medically & physically, but it also relates many of his philosophies & little known anecdotes from his early youth & everyday life.
In a way it was a bit unnerving, yet all the more interesting, that a lot of Napoleon’s opinions coincide with my own; the lack of faith in doctors, the belief that we do have knowledge of our own fate but have very little control over it, the ability to size people up within a few minutes of meeting them…the list goes on.
The only part of the book that leaves something to be desired is the chapter pertaining to his death as it does not do into great detail (though even it casts doubts on Montholon’s version of things). But I suppose that after reading entire books on the subject any book condensing it into a single chapter would seem sparse.
