750. The Life of Cardinal Vaughan Vol. I, by J. G. Snead-Cox (read 30 Aug 1963) I finished reading Volume One on Aug 30, 1963 and Volume Two the next day. The work was published in 1912 and read like it. Yet, I was thoroughly impressed. Most of the time the books were fascinating. Laudatory, yet not merely eulogistic. One could detect the criticism of others in the defensive words. Herbert Vaughan was born April 15, 1832 at Gloucester, England. Ordained Oct 28, 1854, at Lucca, Italy. Consecrated Bishop of Salford on Oct 26, 1872, at Salford by Archbishop Henry Manning. Enthroned as Archbishop of Westminster on May 8, 1892. Created Cardinal Jam 19, 1893, at age 60.
