Gave up on this one. I just wasn't enjoying it at all. I found the writing drab. No rating.

satire, verbal-humor, situational-humor, NYC, supernatural, FBI, spoof, law-enforcement, murder-investigation

Hilarious spoof of FBI and supernatural abilities as well as a dopey romance tucked in here and there. I especially loved the aspect of the Special Agent with the red Ferrari driving like a crazed deputy through the streets of New York! There is a plot, but I was more impressed with all the fun stuff. DO NOT READ WHILE ON THE SUBWAY! This is a real LOL book!

Amanda Meyers was kicked out of her medical program when three people died after she had seen them. With the rep of the grim reaper following her around the higher ups didn’t want her near their patients. So, she gets recruited to the FBI’s Paranormal Cases Division and partnered with Special Agent Rick Rowling. Rowling has a reputation, too. But he’s allowed to be eccentric when he’s rich and connected. So, Amanda begins her new career and goes with the weird flow because she has a mountain of student debt to repay even though she’ll never practice medicine.

This is a quirky and humorous paranormal mystery that will give a bit of light entertainment should you need it. Amanda is funny, but Rowling is just a tad annoying. However, the overall story is decent if a bit too much like a paranormal Stephanie Plum. I enjoyed it enough that I would continue on with the series.

STORY-LINE WICKED AND HAUNTED BY LOTTA SMITH:

Mandy and Rick are back in Wicked and Haunted by author Lotta Smith, this case involves a haunted ring. While planning their up-coming wedding, dealing with the future mother-in-law from hell, and solving the case of the haunted ring, Mandy and Rick finds themselves in the middle of lots of action. The ring's having definite disastrous results on people; then you have mother-in-law, Alice, trying to turn their wedding into a circus event. Planning everything from llama ring bearers to exchanging tattoos instead of rings, Mandy and Rick are at wit's end.

All your old favorites put in an appearance as Mandy and Rick work to solve their latest case and have a normal wedding, . My paranormal romance book reviews for Wicked and Haunted follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, AND DEVELOPMENT:

Although Wicked and Haunted, is the first book of this series I have read, it's not the last. I plan to read all the earlier books. Filled with zany characters, hilarious snips, and snarky dialogue, I laughed continuously. I loved the characters Smith developed for this book; from the zany Jackie to the domineering demanding Alice.

With many plot threads, Smith skillfully brought them all together to form an entertaining book. The scenes flowed smoothly from scene to scene with skillful development of the story-line. With steady pacing, I never lost interest in the story; I read this book straight through. Creating a department in the FBI of paranormal activity does not seem highly abnormal, rather Smith made it appear normal; just an another branch of the FBI.

I loved the character Smith created in Mandy; she's not a sex kitten nor picture perfect beautiful, but a normal slightly pudgy woman in love with a handsome man; who returns that love. Normal that is, except for one thing: Mandy talks to ghost which is how she became involved in the FBI. As I had not read the other books, I wasn't sure I liked Rick, as I had no earlier insight into his personality. However, as the book progressed, I found he's a prince among men; perfect for the slighting insecure Mandy.

Smith held the mystery close to her chest; not revealing the when, why, or who until the last-minute. I love a good fun story with romance and mystery; Wicked and Haunted fit the bill. Adding in the aggravation of wedding planning with a demanding mother-in-law from hell added a great deal of hilarity to the story-line.

Finally, in concluding my reviews for paranormal romance novel, Wicked and Haunted, I found a solid book filled with fun and laughter, along with a mystery for the hero and heroine to solve. Although a standalone, I feel it would increase your reading pleasure to read the proceeding books. This is the perfect book for a lazy afternoon in your favorite chair. I would not hesitate to buy this book for myself or a friend.
WICKED AND HAUNTED RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4

FINALLY, PLEASE NOTE:

In addition, I voluntarily reviewed this book with an honest romance book review, Wicked and Haunted. Furthermore, book reviews of any novel are dependent on the book/novel review author’s opinion. Consequently, all book/novel reviews on-line and on my blog, are my opinions. No one influenced my voluntary romance book review.
