Smith acknowledges The Loyalist is not intended to be a comprehensive biography but rather a concise, readable account of Andrew Johnson’s rise to prominence leading up to the Civil War and his tumultuous presidency that followed. My early impression of the book was that it is a bit thin on details without footnotes and specific bibliographic references. A narrative recounting of the Apollo 11 mission. Although this chronicle of America’s quest for the moon reads more like a novel than a scientific work, there are plenty of facts woven into the telling of the story of the first lunar landing. The novel-like presentation provides readers with a unique perspective while keeping the reader involved as the story unfolds.
